The Former President's Regime of Punishment and Favor

Donald Trump's voracious desire for retribution has swiftly evolved into a structured apparatus. Within the past year, the chief executive's fury and whims have taken on the shape of official policies in a manner comparable to past dictatorial systems. Government figures who fail to comply are promptly dismissed and succeeded by devotees. Opposing figures who question him encounter indictment, court proceedings and penalties. Adversaries have been categorized under presidential directives as “hostile to national interests”, “anti-Christian” and “anti-capitalist”, and threatened with legal action as “security threats”.

The Justice System Remade

All case involving legal action of Trump's enemies and leniency for supporters demonstrates its own distinct features. However, notwithstanding their particular character, they exemplify expressions of what has emerged as a deliberate approach. Those events are not coincidental. Trump's purge of federal attorneys and law enforcement personnel, alongside his placement of devotees in key posts, began rapidly, quickly assumed a pattern, and has now been formed into a structure. The justice department and the FBI have been restructured into ideological bodies under his explicit orders to execute his demands. Unfairness has been made normal. It constitutes the system of punishment.

Leadership is more concerned with targeting the leader's perceived adversaries than they are with protecting our public welfare.

Internal the System

The origin of this system has been exposed in the lawsuit of several previous senior law enforcement executives submitted in late summer in the judicial system in the capital against FBI director Kash Patel and justice department head another official for unlawful firing in “a campaign of payback against Plaintiffs for what Defendants judged to be a failure to demonstrate adequate devotion”. The document states that Brian Driscoll, the ex- temporary head, describes a discussion in which he “freely acknowledged the impropriety of his conduct”.

He had tried to protect FBI agents from being dismissed, the filing claims. The director told him that “they” – perceived by the official to be the executive branch and DoJ – had instructed him to dismiss all those who they considered as having been involved in a law enforcement case against the president. The filing continues: “He clarified that he had to fire the people his superiors told him to fire, because his ability to retain his own position relied on the ouster of the officials who were involved in matters involving the chief executive. He commented that there was no way he or him could do to prevent these or any other firings, because ‘the FBI sought to place the President in jail and he hasn't forgotten it.’” After he informed the director he was violating the agency's own policies, Patel allegedly said “he knew that and he knew the nature of the immediate dismissals were almost certainly illegal”.

Extensive Effects

After Patel's claimed acknowledgment to him, the Department of Justice and the FBI have been dismantled and repurposed for his retribution system. Several of the agency's senior executives were dismissed or pushed out in the first days of the administration. Approximately numerous professional attorneys at the department have agreed to a “voluntary departure plan”. No fewer than several DoJ lawyers, among them those in the New York office, resigned in objection over what they considered as political interference in abandoning the legal action against the New York City mayor, Eric Adams, in exchange for his collaboration with the administration's ICE roundups of foreign nationals. The public integrity section of the department, which oversees misconduct investigations, has been reduced to a handful of lawyers. The equality section has been severely reduced: 70% of its personnel has resigned. A third of senior leaders at DoJ have quit. The division implementing conservation statutes has lost a majority its supervisors.

Favors and Sanctions

Regarding the mayor's situation, the interim prosecutor for the NY office, the official, resigned in objection against what she characterized as the “trade-off”. The border official, the president's “border czar,” was present as the agent with the mayor on television to announce: “If he doesn't come through, I will return in New York City.”. Meanwhile, another figure, previously the justice department figure and a ex-lawyer, who brokered the deal, was granted an appellate federal judgeship, a likely stepping stone to the supreme court.

Trump's protection for crimes perpetrated while in government, granted by the remarkable decision of the conservative on the highest court, thus thwarting his prosecution over the political violence and maintaining his political viability for the national vote, is the cornerstone on which he depends to shield his stalwarts. With such immunity, he has been empowered to permit corruption. The impact of the court judgment saturates his administration and the GOP down to its bones. The court matter has spread. As a past leader's legal adviser the figure remarked about the Watergate
